Why do I need to request a shift before booking?

Some states require a background check before you can book a shift and these checks can only be processed by a registered healthcare facility and not by Clipboard Health. 

If you're trying to pick up shifts at some facilities in Washington, Vermont, Nevada, or New York, you’ll need to provide approval and consent by fulfilling a background check authorization form requirement first.

As of June 2025, this is live at the following facilities:

Nevada

Washington

  • Canterbury House
  • Enumclaw Health and Rehabilitation Center

  • Shelton Health & Rehabilitation Center
  • Legacy Court Senior Living
  • Bainbridge Island Health & Rehabilitation
  • Landmark Care And Rehabilitation
  • Fairwinds - Redmond
  • Soundview Rehabilitation And Health Care Inc

 

What do I need to complete?

Complete the background check authorization or consent form for the state where you're booking a shift:

  • Washington – WA DSHS Background Check Authorization Form
  • Vermont – Vermont Adult and Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Nevada – NABS (Automated Background Check System) Consent Form
  • New York – NY CHRC 102 and 103 Forms

You only need to complete this form once per state. Once approved, your form can be used by multiple facilities.

Note

Some facilities let you InstantBook shifts once you’ve submitted your background check authorization form—no need to wait for a result. In these cases, the shift is yours as soon as you book it.

Other facilities will show a “Request this shift” button instead. This means they’ll review your request manually before confirming your shift and may also choose to run their own background check during that review.

 

 

How do I request a shift?

  1. Open the Clipboard app and click the Calendar tab.
  2. Select a shift you're interested in. Review the full details.
  3. If your background check form isn't complete yet, you will not be able to request a shift.
  4. Tap the Request this shift button.

 

 

What happens next?

The facility has the option to:

  1. Approve your request anytime before the shift begins. Your pending shift requests are also auto-approved for this specific facility.
  2. Or, upload the results directly into the app (not required), then approve. Clipboard Health will review if the result is okay to be used by other facilities and be approved in the generic requirement.
